June/August 2018: HMS Pinafore

Gilbert and Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore was the first time I had worked with operetta, or indeed anything related to opera. I was determined to make the production feel as accessible as possible, so I spent large amounts of time with each of the soloists to ensure the meaning of each line was crystal clear to the audience. Whilst embracing Gilbert and Sullivan tradition, we worked hard to ensure audience was always aware of what we were doing and why.

The production originally played in the Assembly Rooms Theatre, Durham, before transferring to the Cockpit Theatre, Marylebone, in August/September 2018.
