November 2017: BU21
BU21 is a mock-verbatim play by Stuart Slade. It takes the form of various interlinked monologues from six different characters in the wake of a fictional terrorist attack, and draws inspiration from real-life interviews (although the characters themselves and the events of the play are fabricated).
As much of the play takes places at a support group for survivors, I staged it in a local, independent coffee shop to encourage a feeling of emotional intimacy between the characters and the audience, whom they so often directly address.
BU21 was longlisted for the National Student Drama Festival 2018.
